St. Angela Merici School is proud of our
state-of-the-art computer lab. In August 2006, we installed a
brand new 30 station lab with IBM computers and lcd monitors.
The computers are connected to a file server where students can digitally
turn in their work. We also have 2 printers in our lab and a projector that can be
used for student or teacher demonstrations. Five SmartBoards were installed
at our school between 2006-2007 and they are great teaching tools.
At the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year we added a mobile laptop
cart. This cart contains 30 laptops that can be taken to any classroom.
It is outfitted with a wireless router for internet access and a wireless
printer to print work.
Students, kindergarten through eighth grade, attend computer
classes twice per week. The students are taught internet safety,
webquests, research skills, keyboarding, Microsoft Office
software products, and other learning software. The older students
are taught HTML and CSS (for web design), Computer History, and even
computer hardware. Eighth graders learn to assemble their own computer
with a group of their peers.
Our teachers have integrated the SmartBoard technology into
their current curriculum allowing students to interact with
the new technology and experience another method of visual
learning. Teachers have also done a great job integrating the laptops
into their class routines. They allow technology to become a part of
nearly every curriculum area.
St. Angela Merici has its very own broadcasting network. The
intra-cable network allows our students to broadcast school announcements
and daily information as well as weather and news casts. Students
view these broadcasts daily in their classrooms.
At St. Angela Merici we are very concerned with internet safety
and employ firewalls and web filtering to protect our students.
